LIFE CYCE OF INSECTS and ANTS AND TERMITES
In villages
very often large number of ants will fly around. We have been told (folk or
grandma tale) that ants develop wings towards the end of their life and die
soon.
In schools
we have been told about insect life cycle and the standard Egg – Larva – Pupa –
Adult was taught. Examples were Butterfly and Silkworm.
Recently I
wanted to check if all the entomology can be covered by this one concept.
Recently
ants in large numbers were moving both inside and outside our house in Mysuru.
Some were extra large. Then I checked in the Internet . The result is given in
the pictures here.
ANT
(TERMITE) lifecycle is different.
Extra info
: Largest size is the Queen Ant, Other smaller winged ones are male. These
males die leaving wings spread all over.
