Ideas from an arm-chair  educationist :

New year has come – old calendars are being discarded- collect some of them

I]  If the reverse side is free [i.e. blank ] use the page to write anything- memos, diary notings etc  - for convenience hang it on a nail –

Or let children draw large size sketches etc  and display

2] Use as it is  to help learning  [ middle school]

A] days of the week – English, kannada

      B]  months including spelling

C] number of days in  each month

D] meaning of a few symbols  such as  full moon

              Or new moon day

3]   Take any one month – cut columns only , jumble and regroup to the original -  similarly rows only-  also days of the week cut and jumbled

4] take sheets of jan, feb, mar, and apr. Cut away week days column  month title let children reconstruct  - give clues

Art minded parents, craft teachers and such resourceful persons can think of many good ideas

Some calendars are theme based with beautiful photographs etc  - so good that you do not feel like throwing them  away-  one can ask children to make an album  with titles . short descriptions
